The amazing thing to me about Sager is that he was 100% universally liked. I don't think there's a single person out there who doesn't like him. That's fucking damn near impossible in this day and age. That alone speaks volumes to how amazing he was as a person. He was a stranger who we all considered a friend, it's incredible.

I did not know who this was so I looked her up. Interesting life. Apparently, longevity runs in the family. Her mother died in 1997 at the age of 101. She was married 9 times; once to Conrad Hilton, grandfather of Paris Hilton and founder of the Hilton hotel chain.

For anyone else who isn't sure who this is....

So a question. Is 2016 exceptionally bad for celeb deaths in proportion or do we just have more celebrities now than before but celebs are still dying a relatively normal rate?

Will 2017 be just as bad, if not worse, because we have so many celebs these days?

I think it's statistical. A lot of celebs which reached their peak popularity in the 50s and 60s are getting old, then you have the occasional anomaly like Prince or Carrie Fisher.

I think it's this. Sad as it is to think about, Boomer-age celebs are gonna be dropping like flies over the next ~25 years. Buckle up.

It seems like a lot of celebs that did a lot of drugs in the 70's, 80's and '90s are having that catch up with them. (Prince, Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, et al). So, when celebs die at an abnormally young age (even of "natural causes" like a heart condition) often past drug use plays a role. But I think, too, because of TV and the way movie stars were utilized beginning in the 1960s, there are simply more of them approaching the age at which a lot of people die. Keep in mind that prior to the 1950s, TV was virtually non-existent. And prior to the 1970s, movie stars were often under contract with the movie giants, so a smaller number of "stars" were heavily utilized to produce more movies. (John Wayne, I believe, acted in over 200 movies in his career. That is unheard by most stars today). Also, more movies are produced every year today.

The bottom line is that because of the recording industry, the movie industry, television and the media, there are not only more stars today available for the angel of death, but there is also more media buzz surrounding their death.
